Correction

In my last post, I wrote that 3 billion subsistence farmers are being put out of business by current U.S. agricultural subsidies. After a heated debate with my friend Pete, I realize the comment was poorly worded since the term subsistence technically means somebody who grows only for themselves and their families, although I have heard this term used in other ways. A better way to word the sentence is this, "Millions of farmers in the developing world are struggling to compete in the global economy due to being priced out of the market as a result of U.S. Agricultural Subsidies." The reference is regarding current U.S. farm policy which many rural farmers in America are seeking to reform as well. For the record, Bread for the World is not advocating the total elimination of subsidies, but a more fair and equitable distribution that benefits both rural farmers in America and the millions of farmers in the Global South.

Here is a website dealing with this issue from both sides of the argument.

Sweet Aaron,
That's what I was hoping for. Good stuff. Thanks.
